Aston Villa will loan midfielder Finn Azaz to Newport County after signing him from West Brom, according to a Football Insider report.

It was recently reported that Villa, who already signed a young West Brom player this summer in the form of Tim Iroegbunam, is also in the process of closing a deal for Azaz.

Now it looks like the Premier League side have already made plans to ensure the 20-year-old has regular playing time next season.

According to the latest report, the midfielder will join Newport County on a temporary basis for the next campaign.

Azaz spent last season on loan in League Two with Cheltenham, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, to help the Robins get promoted to League One.

It was the 20-year-old’s first taste of regular senior football, with Azaz never making a first-team appearance for West Brom in his career.

The verdict

I think it might be a sensible move for Aston Villa.

It seems unlikely that Azaz will walk directly alongside Dean Smith when he arrives at Villa Park, given both his inexperience and the quality he already has.

As a result, a loan to a club like Newport, where he should be able to continue his development with more consistent first-team football, could be good for Azaz.

Indeed, given the role he played in promoting Cheltenham last season, Azaz should also be a useful asset for Newport next season as they look to do better after their final loss in the League 2 play-offs. against Morecambe.
