Arsenal loan to William Saliba cleared up after false reports
William Saliba’s upcoming loan departure has caused a stir as supporters light their torches in response to Mikel Arteta’s decision to send the defender on his third departure from the club since arriving in 2019.
Saliba was not expected to return to north London this summer with a place in the squad released to him following the departure of David Luiz.
His qualities on the ball were precisely what the Frenchman could bring to the table with the added benefit of athleticism and pace. It looked like a natural progression.
However, the imminent arrival of Ben White changed the landscape in the Emirates, prompting talk of another loan for the 20-year-old. Three years, no appearance in competition.
Arsenal loan to William Saliba cleared up after false information on Marseille loan deal including option to buy at end of season
After a decision was made for the £ 27million signing to withdraw from the France Olympic squad to secure a full preseason under his belt, it quickly followed that Marseille would take him at the Velodrome stadium for the next campaign. Matteo Guendouzi joins him.
But The team decided to continue with the seemingly anti-Arsenal framework that grew out of the entire Saliba saga. Naturally, the French press played a key role in portraying Arsenal in a bad light and they said that a call option was included in the deal, for a huge amount. 10 million euros.
It turned out to be total nonsense. Did they confuse their information with Guendouzi? Maybe, and maybe they should get the benefit of the doubt, but it sparked even greater anger within the fan base.
Chris Wheatley, among others, poured ice water on these claims and insisted that it was a simple loan with no options or obligations. Even Arsenal, who have made numerous recruiting mistakes over the past few years, aren’t so stupid to sign this.
None of these transfers are ideal and Saliba is playing for half of France before Arsenal sums up how much of a mess it has been, but as it is, if Arteta doesn’t want to play him this season, he has to go on loan.
Five to ten games here and there will do nothing for its development. More than 30 matches in Ligue 1 and The outings in the Europa League will certainly be.
Is there a plan in place?
